5th & 6th Surgeries

We just came home on Sunday from a 26 day hospital stay with our 5 year old. He had his 5th and 6th major surgeries. He ended up getting a very nasty infection and abscess. We are soooo happy to be home. He still has a PICC line and IV antibiotics. And based on his lab results yesterday he still has an infection. But he's getting stronger by the day. I think we might try to send him to school next week.

We loved Holly the Child Life Specialist. She helped him get ready for the many procedures he had.

I have never stayed anywhere so long that I unpacked my suitcase. But I did here. I was thankful for that. And it's hilarious that Spider Man is on the TV. I think he watched that movie over 50 times.

You tend to accumulate a ton of stuff in 26 days!

Carter thought it was hilarious to put his freshly painted hand on my face. I left his cute little hand print on my face all evening!

I made him a fort in his room. He loved it.

He discovered how to turn on the sink.

He loved that tractor! We kept it hidden in the room so it wouldn't get taken. Is that bad? We gave it to the little boy across the hall on the day we left.

We got special permission for our dog to come and visit. We figured it was appropriate since it's Carter's animal companion.

Thank you to all who emailed us, prayed for us, came to visit, brought in a meal and just listened. We love you all. And I'll keep you updated on his progress. We go back next week for more blood work and to schedule an out patient procedure to make sure the whole in his bowel is closing. Until then...

How to Survive a Hospital Stay / 5 on Friday

So another week has come and gone and we are still up at the hospital with Carter. He's 1 week and 1 day post op. He's not doing very well. He had some food on Monday night and ever since he's been miserable. He had an x-ray yesterday and after they put a tube down his nose and irrigated his bowels.

He's still not any better today. His white cells are up considerably from yesterday. They put in a PICC line. It was awesome because I was able to stay in the room while they inserted it. AMAZING!! He did sooooo well. They were amazed at how still he was. He only complained when they took the tape off. He HATES adhesives being removed. Does he cry when they put in an IV? Nope. He will cry when they take the tape off.

We are waiting to go downstairs for a CT scan. They are looking for an absess or other. They are starting the contrast fluid as I'm typing this. He's asleep and won't know a thing. I'm praying for answers.

As I'm laying awake in bed at night I think of all the things that have made this hospital stay just a little better. So if you find yourself in my shoes someday take note. Here's how to survive a hospital stay with your child...

1. Bring your own blanket and pillow from home. Hospitals aren't known for their comfy beds.

2. Bring your own towel and toiletries. I didn't even buy travel size toiletries. I brought my huge bottles of my favorite shampoo and conditioner. I also brought some yummy smelling bath gel too. I hate hospital towels. They are tiny and don't dry you at all.

3. Be nice to your nurses and nurses' assistants. They aren't there to serve you and clean up after you. We've only had a couple of nurses over the course of many stays that I didn't like. Carter has been spoiled rotten up here this time.

4. Bring a book and magazines. It's boring here. It's hard to just sit around all day long watching Disney Channel or PBS.

5. Don't EVER feel guilty for leaving your child alone while you run and grab something to eat or take a break. I left Carter to come to the parent resource center to type this up. They will survive.

6. Don't ever get your hopes up about how long your stay will be. Seriously, don't. Your doctor or surgeon might say that the stay will be 3-5 days. I've made this mistake one too many times, only to be extremely disappointed. Something might happen to make that stay just a little bit longer than expected. Look at me now. But then don't assume that it WILL be longer. Just take it day by day.

7. Bring an ipod or something to listen to music on. I'm a firm believer in the power of music. Again the Disney shows get old and it's nice to tune out.

8.  It's OK to cry. It's OK to have a "break down." I've definately shed some tears over these last two days. Between the lack of sleep and watching helplessly it's bound to happen.

9.  It might surprise you who comes and visits and who doesn't. It's hard when some don't make the effort. But they don't know how hard it is at the hospital. They probably don't know that visiting or calling would brighten your day. I promise though that you will meet people in the hospital that are amazing and understand exactly how you feel and what you are going through. It's awesome!

10. The food at the hospital will give you the worst gas you've ever had!! It will destroy your tummy. Bring some fiber with you! You think I'm kidding? Just try eating that food 3 times a day for weeks. YUCK!

Ok...now for the best and worst parts this week.

1. Carter made a super hero cape in the play room this week. It's adorable and I can't wait until he feel well enough to wear it and play.

2. We have been spoiled rotten. Or I should say that Carter has. The nurses and staff LOVE him. Our nurse last night even let him go and choose what prize he wanted. He chose a Power Ranger glove and phone set.

3. I get to go home and get a good night's rest today.

4. I have had just as much fun at the play room as Carter has. It's so fun to play!!

5. We have been shown so much love by our friends and family. Thank you so much for those that have sent gifts and emails. Oh and Dan, we LOVE Yoda!!

Bottom 5...

1. Watching helplessly is awful!

2. The food...uggg my poor tummy.

3. The hurry and wait game I hate!

4.  We have the most amazing view from our room but the inversion is terrible. Yuck!

5. Taking cat naps all night long is getting to me. Maybe that's why the tears are so close to the surface.

5 on Friday...Hospital Version

Ok, I know it's Saturday but I had to get this posted. Even if it's a day late. I'm posting from the hospital again. Lucky me! Our 5 year old is here for another surgery. We got here Wednesday for his bowel prep. His surgery was on Thursday. He's doing well. Actually today he's grumpy. I'll keep you all posted as to his progress.

So without further ado, here is my hospital version.

Top 5

1. We've had the best nurses! We even saw Emily, one of our favorites! She was working on another pod and so we stopped by to say hi! It was so fun to see her.

2. The child life specialists are AMAZING. Carter LOVES Star Wars (did you know that it's coming back to theaters in Feb in 3D? Oh yea!!) so child life totally tapped into that. The made him two sticks to hold. One has General Grevious (is that right?) and the other has Annakin (again, not sure how to spell these). They help him "fight" through his pain. They also printed off some pictures to hang up in his room. Awesome!!

3. We have a great view. We can see downtown Salt Lake and we can even see the Salt Lake Temple!

4. When we arrived on Wednesday we saw the coolest ice sculptures outside. It was Santa's sleigh and his reindeer. We went outside today and it's all melted.

5. The Hubs spent the night here last night (yes we are still together!!) and I took our older two to a movie. We saw We Bought a Zoo. It was excellent! I was in bed by 7:30. Fantastic!

Bottom 5...

1. The food. It's good. But it will mess with your bowels VERY quickly!

2. Carter is a GRUMP today. I don't blame him, poor little guy but wow! This is when it gets really hard staying here.

3. The "bed" in his room is super comfy. Oh wait, I typed that wrong! It's the most uncomfortable thing ever invented. Imagine taking your grandmother's chair wrapped in plastic, pulling it out into a flat thing and then sleeping on it.

4. I don't have any sheet music to play. There's a baby grand just sitting here and my fingers are itching to play!

5. The playroom is awesome but they give me funny looks as I'm making puppets and painting. Can't moms play too???

Thanks for the visits, emails, texts, etc. They are VERY much appreciated. I'll keep you posted.

I'm getting this going again! Hooray!

Top 5 this week...

1. I deleted my facebook account. Why? Because I am simplifying my life. It was a time waster for me. It was REALLY hard though! 2012 is going to be the year I concentrate on ME and I don't need distractions. I have a lot of hard work ahead of me.

2. My 5 year old is finished with his musical theater performances. I'm sad about that though. It's on the top this week because I LOVED each and every performance. They never got old for me. I can't wait for summer's performances now.

3. The generosity and Christmas spirit shown to our little family has been overwhelming. This truly is becoming the BEST Christmas I've ever had. Thank you so much my Christmas angels!

4. The inversion is gone (well for right now). We have sunny skies with no smog!

5. I enjoyed a quiet night all by myself last night. The kids spent the night with the Hubs at his parents house. I got some junk food at Harmon's and even met Bob Harmon. It was fun! I watched a favorite movie and then went to bed. I was seriously in bed by 7. Ahhhh...I love my sleep!

Bottom 5...

1. Attitudes, attitudes, attitudes! I hate them. Enough said.

2. My 5 year old is throwing tantrums again. His poor little world has been turned upside down this last little while and I'm sure that he's very nervous about his surgery in a few days.

3. Speaking of surgery, his surgery is soon. It's only a couple of days away. I'm not looking forward to seeing him in such pain. And what if it doesn't work again? I'm super stressed about it. It's a BIG surgery.

4. I'm realizing more and more that I'm a summer kind of girl. This cold really stinks! Put me on a warm tropical island for the rest of my life and I'd be happy! Could you imagine spending Christmas on the warm beach? Oh yea! I'd gladly give up hot cocoa for the rest of my life for that!

5. So much to do and so little time. That's how I feel right now. The little man gets admitted just 3 days after Christmas! This mama is stressed to the max right now! I see Calgon in my future!

I hope you all have a VERY merry Christmas! I hope that your new year is amazing! I'm kind of excited to spend New Year's in the hospital. Maybe we'll see fireworks again like we did on the 4th of July. 2012 is going to be an amazing year!

Where Have YOU Been??

Yea, yea...I know! I've been MIA for the last 6 weeks or so. I won't sugar coat this post. Life has been in the crapper for the last little while and the very last thing I've wanted to do is blog about it.

I won't bore you with the details. I'm just hoping that 2012 is a MUCH better year for my and for my children.

So I do promise to keep this updated just a bit more! It's going to shift just a little bit. I'm actually going to add some new material about single moms!

It will be fun, I promise. So bear with me as I figure all this out!

I have GOT to get this list done for last week. I'm so sorry it's late. My dog ate the list. Oh, wait that excuse won't work, will it?

It was a better week!! Hooray! I hope you all had an amazing week filled with more ups than downs.

Top 5...

1. Ian received his Arrow of Light. He we all worked so hard on it. Honestly, if it wasn't for his leader, Brother Anderson Ian would not have received it. Brother Anderson took Ian for a 6 mile bike ride and helped him with other things he needed to complete. He's an amazing leader. And the primary president, Sister Kind did a great job on the ceremony itself. The last ceremony I went to in this ward was goofy. It had NOTHING to do with the arrow and what it represented. So I was soooo grateful for Sister King and her efforts.

2. My dad is now officially, DR. Bruce Kusch! I am so excited for him and my mom! Now they can play and travel and spend some much needed time together. Congratulations Dad!

3. We had a great time on Halloween. All the kids went out and got loads of candy. Ian decided to stay in our neighborhood and trick or treat with his friends. The rest of us headed to my sister in law's house. It was soooo nice to have kids old enough to take the little kids out with them! So the adults just sat around talking and laughing. It was great!

4. I seriously saved us 30% on our car insurance. Thank you Progressive Snap Shot!

5. We got the first REAL snow storm of the season. Now that gives me more motivation so clean out my part of the garage. I really do love the snow!

Bottom 5...

1. I got pulled over on my way taking Addison to school. It was on the freeway. I got pulled over for having my headlight out. DANG! I also got issued a ticket because I couldn't find my current insurance card. I swear it was in there somewhere I was just too nervous and couldn't find it. No biggie though because I just have to show that the light is fixed and that I did have insurance. So it shouldn't cost a dime! Oh and yea me for fixing the light my by self! That's right!!

2. Stomach flu bites! I just wish I was only one stomach flu away from a size 6!

3. When sad things happen to good people it breaks my heart!

4. We had our phones and cable turned off. Actually that's really not THAT bad. We've got a couple of local channels to watch and so I won't miss The Amazing Race and Survivor. I just need to make sure I'm home because we don't have a DVR anymore. I do have talk free/text free on my cell phone which is awesome. We just couldn't afford them anymore. Life goes on. There's WAY more important things than TV for us right now.

5. They are already playing Christmas music on the radio and at Wal Mart. I walked into Wal Mart the other day and almost started crying. This Christmas is going to be hard. But I'm determined to make it a magical Christmas despite our circumstances. Hmmm...I sense a theme to December's blog posts. How to have a VERY merry Christmas on next to nothing! Love it!

I'm excited for the holidays ahead. I'm excited to make our lives memorable.
There is a woman in our ward dying of cancer. It breaks my heart. She was Ian's primary teacher. He loves her. Every week she asked the kids what they did to LIVE! I'm choosing to LIVE instead on focusing on what we don't have!

Arrow of Light Ceremony

Last night my 11 year old received his Arrow of Light. It's the highest award a Cub Scout can earn! We are so proud of him. He worked hard to earn this award.

YW in Excellence Theme...Fireworks!

In just a couple of weeks we are celebrating the accomplishments of the YW in our ward at Young Women in Excellence.

It's a night for the girls to show the leaders and their parents the value projects they've worked on throughout the year.

This year we are having a fireworks themed event. I'm so excited!

I was looking for decorating ideas and found an adorable and cheap idea! The blog I found it on is AWESOME!! Check it out here!!

How cute are these coffee filter flowers? They have so much potential! We can really make them look like fireworks. I thought that we could color them with the different value colors!

We are on a very tight budget this year so this will work perfectly! I also thought that paper pleated circles would be cute in the value colors.

So cute!! The possibilities are endless!

The girls have a spark in them and that can be ignited by Personal Progress.

I feel so strongly that it can. It WILL change a young woman for the better.

I have sparklers for all the girls for their handout and reminder that they can explode with confidence, color, virtue and everything else that is good and wholesome if they will follow the Prophet and this inspired program.

5 Year Old's ER Visit

WARNING: THIS POST IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. IT'S A GRAPHIC DESCRIPTION OF CARTER'S ER VISIT.

This all happened Tuesday evening. Why do emergencies never happen during the day? I spent Tuesday at my friend Jenny's house stuffing CD's. By the time we were done Carter was wrecked tired! After dinner he started complaining that his stoma hurt. I figured he was just tired and so I started getting him ready for bed. I took off his ostomy bag to put a new one on and realized why he was in so much pain. His stoma had prolapsed. Basically his stoma (intestines) had come out about 4 inches and it was incredibly swollen.
I called the surgeon on call and she said to come to the ER. So we drove to Primary Children's Hospital.

The surgical team came to look at Carter and tried to "stuff" the stoma back inside his belly. My heart ached so badly because Carter was in so much pain. One of the surgeons asked another to grab some sugar. WHAT??? Seriously?

So off he ran to the cafeteria to grab some sugar. They told me that it absorbs the water and helps reduce the swelling. I really started to freak out!

Because Carter was crying so badly they weren't able to get him to relax enough to push everything back in. So they sedated him with Ketamine. He looked dead while he was sedated.

Because they used Ketamine he had to be monitored constantly. As the surgeons were doing their "thing" Carter threw up. They quickly turned him on his side and suctioned his mouth out.

It seemed like it took them forever to get everything back in place. When all was said and done Carter was covered in vomit and blood. It was gross and I wanted to vomit myself seeing that.

While they cleaned him up I ran to the car and grabbed Carter's ostomy supplies. I also took that chance to move my car since it was parked illegally.
They admitted him just in case it prolapsed again. That night was one of the longest of my life. I didn't have my meds and my restless legs were BAD! I didn't sleep at all.

In the morning Carter was able to eat breakfast. He hardly ate though. The surgeons rounded and decided he could come home. So we were discharged and he's been fine ever since.

Want to know the worst part? It's the part of this story that makes me want to cry. He missed his Halloween pre-school program. He's been singing the songs all month long and we missed his program, his very last pre-school Halloween program ever. I'm not sure why I'm so sad about this part. I guess I was just looking forward to it so much.

I'm so glad he's doing so much better. What a day that was!

I know this is a day late but this week has been absolutely insane. Here's to another "break" from life for a few minutes! Thanks ladies for the awesome questions this week!

2. Are you a price conscious shopper?
3. What store could you spend HOURS in?
4. What is the most frivolous purchase you have ever made?
5. What was the last thing you bought for yourself?

Here are my answers...drum roll please!

1. Do you shop til you drop, or are you in and out as quick as possible? I like to get in and get out! And I do NOT like shopping with other people. I like to be on my own schedule when shopping. Actually, I take that back. I like shopping with other people if we are at a craft store/boutique. I just hate clothes shopping with other people.

2. Are you a price conscious shopper? Oh hecks yes I am! I love me a good bargain! I will rarely pay full price for something even if it's something I've really wanted. I will wait for it to go on clearance. I'm sure I've missed out on some great items but I don't mind.

3. What store could you spend HOURS in? Target, Hobby Lobby, any book store and any thrift store.

4. What is the most frivolous purchase you have ever made? Right before the Hubs and I got married I dropped $500 at Gap. He freaked thinking it was a regular thing for me to do this. Ummmm...it was. I only shopped there and I hardly ever wore the same thing twice. Yea, that was short lived. I can't even fit into Gap clothes anymore! So sad. But even if I did I wouldn't shop there. It's too expensive and I'm too cheap now!

5. What was the last thing you bought for yourself? It was a sweater that I bought at Wal Mart. It's actually really cute and it only cost $20! I had just stuffed CDs at a friend's house and I bought it with the money I made. It's cold now and I didn't have a sweater that fit.

I'll attempt to put together a list this week. I wish I could share what is going on with my life with the blogging world but I can't. It's ROUGH right now, I can't lie. But there is good in every day and so here's my attempt to find it...

Top 5

1. I spent some time at my good friend's house today. My 5 year old was really excited too because he wants to marry her daughter. She and I both thought it would be so fun to be related!

2. I was asked to record on a project! That was an honor. I turned it down though so I could focus on my family. I'm so OK with that. There will be more opportunities down the road.

3. Have you seen "17 Miracles?" This deserves a separate post but I'll condense it. As the Saints are crossing the plains there was a woman who just couldn't walk any more. She had just lost twin babies and the journey was just too great. Her family started walking away, leaving her. Her daughter stayed with her and prayed for a miracle. The Lord provided for them. As soon as she was done praying there was a dish of food laying there! They ate and she continued her journey.

I have felt the same as that woman lately. I just feel like I can't go on any longer. Today on our porch our "dish of food" was provided! I too prayed for a miracle and it came! We received a check from the Hubs' old employer. It's just enough to pay for some medical bills and some other necessities.

4. My 5 year old has been cracking me up lately! He says the funniest things! He told me this week that he wants to have his 6th birthday party at a cemetery. He LOVES ghosts and ghost hunting shows.

5. I have been blessed with good parents, good in-laws and good friends who have helped us this week. Thank you. I love you all.

1. Hospitals...I hate you.

3. I still haven't one the million dollars from McDonald's Monopoly.

4. I wish gas wasn't so expensive. Anyone have an electric car I can borrow for the next 4-6 weeks?

Witches Were My Break

We have a lot going on in our lives right now. A good friend said that the person who's praying for us to have patience needs to be found and shot. I had a good laugh over that.

Today the boys and I got a MUCH needed break from all the chaos and stress. We went with Mom Warner, my sister in-law Laura and her 4 girls to Gardner Village to see the witches.

It's UEA weekend here in Utah and it probably wasn't the best time to go. We all hate crowds and boy was it ever crowded. Today I didn't care. I was able to escape for just a little while and enjoy spending time together!

So despite the crowds we had a blast! Here's just a little bit of proof!

I saved the funniest for last! Oh my little man! This pretty much sums his time up there. He was NOT happy that we had to wait a few minutes for everyone to get there. And he was equally upset that we had to leave.

Thanks again ladies for the morning out! Until next year. And no, we won't be going on UEA weekend EVER again!

I can't remember! I am a really patient person. Oh wait, we are talking about me. Patience is definitely a virtue I'm working on. Last night I lost my temper at my 5 year old. He would not cooperate and it frustrated me so badly! He lost a lot of privileges last night!

{2} What 3 words best describe you?
Oh wow, this is hard. The first one that comes to mind is non-judgmental. I really do give everyone a chance. Everyone has choices to make in life and I just don't have the time to judge. I honestly only care about one thing about a person, are they a GOOD person? If so, then I really don't care about the rest. The second is caring. I've always been the type of person who cries when you cry and laughs when you laugh. The third is fun! I love to have fun and goof off. It still gets me in trouble sometimes! Life is too short not to have fun!

{3} What movie could you watch over and over again and never get tired of?
Pretty in Pink or any of the "Brat Pack" movies. Love those!! Oh and I love that Duckie!

{4} If you could do something dangerous, just once, with no risk, what would you do? I would go swim with sharks. That would be awesome!!

{5} Which is more important intelligence or common sense?
Duh, common sense. I've met some pretty intelligent people who are completely stupid about life and people.

I'm totally avoiding avoiding housework right now so what better way to use my time? Right, there's nothing better! I love these questions! Thanks Mamarazzi, Quesov and Crazymama!

{1} What is your feel better remedy when you are sick?
I LOVE the packets of soup that you mix with boiling water. But they have to be the ones with extra noodles. I also love my sleep and just laying in bed. I have a really bad habit of not drinking enough so the Hubs really pushed the drinks and I don't like that so much. But it does help!
{2} When illness strikes, what is your policy on staying home from work, school or church with yourself and the family?
I'm pretty easy going about this. If you are sick, you stay home. My kids have totally tried faking it though. On those days (VERY few) I make them stay in bed ALL day long. They hate this! They've learned not to fake it or call home in the middle of the day!
{3} What do you think is worse? Flu or cold?
I absolutely hate having a cold. I can't stand it when you can't taste or smell anything! I hate the stuffy noses. And I really hate going to bed when I have a cold. It's miserable to sleep with a stuffy nose. Ick.
{4} Flu shots? Do you get them? Have you yet?
I never get a flu shot. I honestly don't see the point at all. It just seems like only old people get them. I still don't get why they do it. I'm afraid that if I do get a flu shot it will make me sick. I don't get them for my kids either. It's a total waste of money to me.
{5} When are are feeling down, what is your usual, go-to therapy? (retail therapy, exercise, comfort food, etc).
I am a firm believer in thrift store retail therapy. That trash really is my treasure! I love finding an item to restore or remake over. Love it!! Oh and I LOVE going book shopping. I love the smell of bookstores, especially if there's a coffee shop in them. Oh the joys of sitting with a hot drink and reading. Really, there's nothing better!

Hitting the Road Family Fun Style!

Remember my post about Family Badges of Fun? Well, we earned our 2nd badge this weekend! We took a road trip!

Our family LOVES seeing the fall colors this time of year. Usually we stay pretty close to home. When I think of a "road trip" I think of an adventure and that's just what we had.

We traveled through East Canyon. I'd never been there before. The colors were awesome!! When we came to a fork in the road we decided to head toward a little town called Morgan. We fell in love with it. It made us all want to pack up and move there! We then had another choice to make...come home through Ogden or Parley's. We chose to head toward Parley's. Then when we came to the exit towards Salt Lake or Wyoming we chose Wyoming!

We ended up going to Evanston, WY. I needed to go there anyway so I could buy some sparklers for an upcoming YW activity. It's a surprise so I won't say why I bought them.

It was dinner time so we stopped at JB's for dinner. It was disgusting. So sad! Oh well.

We made it home just in time for bed!

This is Devil's Slide. It really was amazing. It's too bad you really can't slide down the thing!

So my left hand is still killing me from my fall over two weeks ago. I grabbed some Advil we had in the car. Wasn't that nice of them to think of ME by giving me my own drinking cup? Thanks Convenience Valet! I was half tempted to pour some of my Diet Coke in that little cup just so it didn't go to waste but I was in too much pain!

I can't believe it's been a week and a half since I've blogged at all! These last two weeks have been just as hard as the weeks before that. When it rains it really does pour around here.

1. We had a really fun YW activity this week. We made duct tape wallets and duct tape bags. The girls had so much fun and were so creative! It was fun just to get together and laugh and goof off!

2. I really do have the greatest friends in the whole world! Thank you for all you've done! I love my "fight like a girl" bag and all the goodies. Aud, thanks for coming over last night.

3. I got to talk to my niece and nephew!

4. The fall colors are in full force! I can't wait to take a drive up the canyon this weekend and shoot some pictures!

5. I got to help my friend, Jenny Phillips, this week on a project she's working on. She's making another DVD. I hope Carter makes it on again. He was hilarious!

1. I'm off to see a hand surgeon on Tuesday. My hand still has not healed. If it was a bone contusion it shouldn't hurt at all anymore. Well, my hand is really killing me still!

2. Carter has been SO clingy lately. It would be nice but he's 5! You'd think that he'd stop the tantrums when I leave by now. Ridiculous!

3. We have so many fruit flies in the house! It's insane. Is this the price for buying fresh fruit from the farmer's market? They seem to multiply overnight. I've even left the back door open just a crack hoping they'd make their way back outside. Yea, that didn't work.

4. It's a good thing I like to buy things at the dollar store! I found some solar Halloween lights and bought a couple of them. I laid them on the porch while I ran inside for something. Carter tried to put one in and broke the stake. Uggg...

5. My depression has hit again. Is it because of family, money issues, stress, worry, or all of the above. Yep, you guessed it, all of the above. Luckily I have some of the best friends in the entire world to help me!

I'm loving these We Want to Know Wednesdays more and more! Today's subject is near and dear to my heart! TV!!

{1} What is your MUST SEE show?

I can't name just ONE show! I have a bunch that are truly MUST see! I really couldn't miss any of these episodes! We even have a fun tradition in our family. Every Sunday at 6 we eat dinner watching America's Funniest Videos. We have done this for YEARS!

{2} What shows are you most excited to watch this season?

I LOVE Modern Family. It's hilarious. I can't wait for the one hour premiere!
{3} How many hours a week do you actually watch TV?

I have no idea. Not too much. During the day it's on for my son do I don't sit down and watch it. I'd say that I watch about 10 hours a week.
{4} Do you think TV has gotten too "racy" (vulgar, pushing the limit, etc) ?

For sure! I stopped watching some of my other favorite shows because they pushed the limit too much. My hands were shaking as I deleted them off the DVR. That was really hard to do but I know that I made the right decision. I'm mostly appalled at the shows that are made for teens. Some are comedies but they are so disrespectful and my kids started acting like that. NO WAY! Those shows have been banned!
{5} How many TVs do you have in your house?

We have 2 TVs. The "big" one is upstairs and has the DVR. The one in the basement has just basic cable.

Personal Progress

In the Mormon church we have a program for girls 12-18 called Personal Progress. It's an amazing program! I completed mine when I was a youth and have such great memories of the projects I worked on. The girls work on different goal and projects and when they are finished they earn a beautiful medallion. I also make each girl who completes them a temple quilt. The quilt pictured it not the one I made. I found the pattern on Sugardoodle.com.

I really believe that this program could help all girls! It is a religious program but the fundamentals taught can be applied to anyone!

Here are the different values that the girl work on, Faith, Divine Nature, Individual Worth, Choice & Accountability, Good Works, Integrity and Virtue. What human being wouldn't be changed by realizing their worth as a human and a child of God? What person wouldn't benefit from looking and examining their lives when it comes to integrity and good works? What girl wouldn't benefit from knowing who she is? And knowing that she is beautiful JUST the way she is? All of us would benefit!

These are some of the experiences I've worked on so far...I studied about prayer and how to be a better mother. I know that God loves me. I developed talents and was able to participate in performing. I became more selective about the TV shows I watch and what music I listen to (you KNOW there is really bad stuff out there). I learned how important serving one another is and how it can truly brighten someone's day!

This program changes lives! It changes them for the better! I don't know of anyone who has completed the experiences and has been changed for the worst. It just doesn't happen.

You don't have to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-
Day Saints to participate! I can get you the materials you need.

Right now I am working on my Faith value project. For all 8 values a 10 hour project must be completed. I am memorizing The Living Christ. Memorization does NOT come easily to me.

I found a link of my bloggy friend's blog. I printed out the flash cards and will memorize it that way. I've memorized 9 out of 23 cards so far!

All my life I've never really been good at setting goals and finishing them. I'm scared I'll fail. I'm scared now too. But I know that I can do this! It's a very long document but it's so important. I know Jesus Christ is real.

I know that he loves ALL of us no matter what! There are those crazy religious people out there that thing that God doesn't love us if we make mistakes or choose to live different lifestyles. To them I say this, you are wrong! God and Jesus Christ love us all! Do they like our choices sometimes? Of course not. But we aren't "punished" because we played the slots or did this or that.

I had a friend's mom tell her that her child got cancer because she played the slot machines. WHAT?? Please make these people stop!

Did I do something wrong and that's why both my boys have Hirschsprung's Disease? Heavens no! We live in an imperfect world and things like this just happen.

Doing my Personal Progress has helped me realize all of this! I'm becoming a better person (at least I hope so).

I'm SO very happy that this week is coming to an end. This has been a really hard week! I hope you guys have had a better week!

1. Yesterday my 5 year old told the Hubs that his favorite fruit was peaches because they were shaped like a "butt." I wish I was kidding.

2. I got my van back this week. It was only in the shop for a day and it didn't cost a penny to fix! Gotta love recalls. But it wasn't without it's hiccups see last post in bottom 5.

3. Last Saturday I helped with The Ivy Girl Academy. It was an amazing event! I made some new friends and saw Addison having an amazing time! I can't wait to help out with it again next time.

4. I received my swap package in the mail this week! I'm still loving all my red things!

5. We set up flags in our neighborhood on the 11th. I loved how patriotic our neighborhood looked.

2. No paycheck, AGAIN!

3. I made this comment on facebook...Living with a 10 year old know it all is like being pecked to death by chickens. Apparently he knows more than his doctors.

4. I ran out of ostomy supplies! But Fed Ex JUST came so I'm happy now! We'll make it another month! Hooray for the Hubs' new insurance!

5. I ended up towing the van to the wrong dealership! I called the location in South Jordan and got VM. I hit "0" and assumed that my call would be transferred back to the same location! I ended up getting transferred to the Salt Lake location. I set up the appointment and thought all was well. When I called the next morning to make sure the van got there safely they had NO idea what I was talking about. It ended up getting fixed at the South Jordan location. But the next day the guy from the Salt Lake location called wondering why I hadn't brought the van in. I told him that I had no idea that when I hit "0" I'd be transferred to another location all together. Talk about a miss communication. But all is well. And it didn't cost a penny to fix!

Ahhh...I'm ready for my Calgon bath now! How was your week? I'd LOVE to know.

Dream Lights

We don't have fireflies here in Utah. I wish we did! I saw this amazing item on BuzzAgent this morning. How dreamy is this jar?

So are you wondering why I'm starting this post with a picture of our van being towed? Because this is how the day pretty much ended. Our brake lights are totally out and so I couldn't drive it to the dealership! Then I got my favorite things package! I was so excited to open the package from Sara over at Simply Sara that I forgot to take a picture of the pretty wrapping job! Thank you Sara for this amazing package! I love that I'm typing this post with my pretty new red nails! I LOVE everything you sent!

LOVE the name of this polish! And yes, Sara, this brand rocks!

I'm so excited to decorate with this red string of beads. Now the dilemma...do they go on my mantle or my sofa table?

I love to journal and needed a new one! I can carry this in my purse! It's perfect.

All in all I got hand sanitizer, a book mark with an amazing quote (I do love quotes), two delicious teas, a mug that is was filled with truffles (man those were just the perfect thing I needed today!), red sting of beads, nail polish, the yummiest gum and my favorite magazine! Today a certain song comes to mind! If you don't know what I'm talking about you didn't grow up in the 80's. It's a Manic Monday!

This morning when I woke up I was right in the middle of a dream. I hate that. I wanted to go back to sleep and see how it ended. I can't even remember what it was about!

My 12 year old is sick.

My van's brake lights aren't working. There's been a recall. I drove the Hubs to work today to I could take Carter to dance and pre-school. At least it won't cost anything to fix. I just hate being with out a car! But I still have to get it towed to the dealership. Uggg....

The kitchen sink faucet is broken. The spray nozzle works but it's impossible to do the dishes that way. Our dishwasher is still broken. And the toilet is still leaking.

I'm at the breaking point with the messes that I've threatened to throw everything I see out away. But then I realize how much money that would be wasting and I just let the stuff stay put.

The dog threw up this morning in the Hubs' car. That was disgusting to clean up.

I have a "situation" I need to take care of. I know vague but that's just the way it has to stay. No, it's not anything to do with family.

Oh yea and I'm about to run out of ostomy supplies for my 5 year old. Can you say stressful?

At least I didn't have to take the early train this morning! And at least I had a "free meal" at Cafe Rio. I just wish they hadn't sung to me about it.

Can I press CTL+ALT+DEL and erase this day?

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you had a fantastic week!

Top 5 or more...

1. My daughter went to her first school dance. Usually she wouldn't be able to go to a dance until she's 14 but this was right after school and was part of spirit week. She had so much fun!

2. We had such a good time at the weenie roast on Monday. I love the Hubs' family. I love that the kids are big enough to go for walks by themselves. The weather was perfect! I love Milcreek Canyon! And here's a first...I had to change Carter's wafer and bag in the back of the van.

3. I was sick on Saturday. I slept until noon. The Hubs took care of everything so I could sleep. They had an eventful morning! He took them to the farmer's market, Costco, and the gas station. When I woke up I got lots of "visitors" aka stuffed animals. My bed was covered! I loved it.

4. I'm now a proud member of "the ugly card club." Getting that card in the mail from my friend Steve totally made my day! I've got mine all ready to send! FUN!

5. On Tuesday I had the amazing opportunity of hearing Jean Keaton speak. She is an amazing artist and I loved hearing the stories behind her drawings.

6. I talked to Carter's pediatric GI doctor. I wanted her opinion on when he can have his take down surgery. We agreed to wait until December after the Nutcracker performance. She was excited that Carter and Addison were dancing in it and asked it she could come and watch! She's amazing.

Bottom 5...

1. Carter dumped out my purse all over the van to look for his Lego guy. At least the crumbs are gone from the bottom of my purse!

2. Are my kids the only ones who dump their stuff anywhere they want? Yea, I didn't think so.

3. I never understood why my mom would threaten not to buy us Popsicles anymore. Oh I get it now! If I find one more stick, Gogurt wrapper or Capri Sun straw wrapper on the floor or table or anywhere else I'm going to lose it.

4. My office has become the "dumping ground" again. I hate this. I just don't have time to organize everything.

5. My 10 year old refuses to sleep in his room downstairs. We need a bunk bed so the boys can share a room. I hate the battle every night. Carter sleeps in a sleeping bag in the hall way. He LOVES it, I don't! I told him that he had to sleep in his bed and that Ian was going to sleep in his bed and he threw a fit. Fine! It's not worth the battle. Sleep on the hard floor if you want to! It's actually kind of funny. Maybe he thinks he's camping every night.

1. What is your favorite holiday?
I don't think I have a favorite! I really do love them all. I especially love Halloween and Christmas though.

2. Do you have any fun holiday traditions? What are they?
The kids get to open PJs on Christmas Eve. And everyone gets to choose their favorite appetizer and we all gather in the kitchen and make the food! That is our dinner on Christmas Eve.
We have a week long celebration for Easter. It's a special time in our house.
And every Labor Day we head up the canyon with the Hubs' family for a weenie roast. It's so much fun to let the kids run and get dirty while the adults play games and talk! Love it.
3. When do you start Christmas shopping?
December 24th! Kidding. I usually start sometime after Thanksgiving.
4. What is your favorite holiday food?
It isn't Christmas without Red Hot Punch. I can't remember a Christmas without drinking that.
5. Share a favorite childhood holiday memory
My parents borrowed a little RV from our dentist for Thanksgiving. We ate Thanksgiving dinner on the beach! It was awesome!
6. Have you ever actually tried fruitcake??
Of course! And guess what? I love the stuff!

Tender Mercies

Yesterday was a no good, horrible day. I seem to be having these a lot lately. Somehow in sorrow God is always there for me. And He is there for you too. Here's a GREAT quote...

"The tender mercies of the Lord are real and they do not occur randomly or merely by coincidence. Often, the Lord's timing of His tender mercies helps us to both discern and acknowledge them."

I love this! I just want to share the tender mercies that I was given yesterday. I know that Elder Bednar is right, they don't occur randomly!

I wanted to go to the cemetery so I could "visit" with my Grandma. I know that angels are all around us and I needed to feel her and talk to her. She had a still born baby in 1936. Notice the date. Yesterday was the 6th. I didn't know that the date was September 6th.

Anyway, as I was sitting and pondering I felt this overwhelming love from my Grandma and Grandpa Kusch. And I realized how much they loved me here on Earth and continue to love me from Heaven. I wasn't sad anymore. I was so happy! I remembered what their love felt like and it one of the most comforting feelings I've had. I was only in 4th grade when my Grandpa died. I have so many fond memories of him taking us to the coffee shop and showing us off! He was so proud of us. And my Grandma Kusch loved me so much! We had a very special relationship. She would call every Saturday morning and we'd talk. We'd also write letters back and forth. She used a typewriter and I still have every letter! Tender Mercy 1.

Tender Mercy 2...I have a project that I want to start working on but I needed dandelions for it. It's not Spring. You can't find any! They were all over the cemetery. They hadn't mowed the lawn that week and I was able to grab all the "wishes" I wanted to!

Tender Mercy 3...Before I left for the cemetery I had a thought to check the mail. My friend Steve had mailed me an "ugly" card! I laughed so hard! He also sent an amazing CD too! I BLASTED that all the way to the cemetery. Thanks Steve!

Tender Mercy 4...Last night we had the opportunity to hear from Jean Keaton. She's an amazing artist. Her story was so touching and inspiring. I needed to hear her stories and see those prints! This one is one of my favorites.

Tender Mercy 5...When I got home from the activity Auds was at my house. I love her like a sister! She is so loving and kind and tell it like it is. I love that about her. She and the Hubs helped me a lot last night.

I felt so blessed as I went to bed last night. It would have been so easy for me to focus on the negative but look at everything I would have missed out on! I love God and His Son Jesus Christ. My life would not be complete without my relationship with them.

I'm SO happy that it's Friday! This week has dragged! I'm looking forward to the holiday weekend. I hope you all have some fun plans! We do! We are following tradition and doing a weenie roast up the canyon with the Hub's family. I'm excited!

1. I got my hair cut again. I also tried to go blond. Yea, it didn't work. But I'm back to brown so it's all good! I love the short do! Now I can really rock the BIG earrings!

2. I have completely given up soda all together! It's been torture! I won't lie. But I haven't had a soda in weeks even though the cravings have been out of this world. It feels great!

3. I had my training for Ivy Girls Academy. I'm looking forward to helping at the event! I'm excited that I get to be a part of something so amazing! I can't wait to meet all the girls! Thank you Jessie Funk for being so inspired.

4. We completed our first Family Fun Badge last night! We were going to make driveway signs but that didn't work out so we adapted! We watched the stars and we taught the kids about the constellations. I have an awesome app on my phone and they had a blast with it!

5. We finally got a paycheck today. It's tiny but at least it's something!

1. The Netherlands trip has been canceled. I'm actually OK with it. But I'm bummed at the same time. It would have been amazing. Jenny did tell us that the next trip we go on we are all at the top of the list to go. The night before I found out I was telling the Hubs that I had a feeling I wasn't going on the trip. I'm not the only that had that feeling in the choir either! Who knows what would've happened had we gone. I trust the Lord and I trust Jenny and I know it's right that we don't go.

2. Change is hard! I thought it would be an easy transition for me to have new members added to our ward. It hasn't been. It's hard for me not to know everyone. I know that will come in time. And I really am looking forward to really getting to know the new YW we have! Already I'm impressed!

3. Our Bishop was released on Sunday. I cried like a baby. I just couldn't hold back the tears. I'm going to miss working with him. But our new Bishop seems awesome too.

4. Did I mention I gave up all soda? Including diet? Yea, it's NOT fun.

5. Last night my 5 year old was climbing over the baby gate and tore his colostomy bag off. I was NOT happy! Talk about a crappy situation!

I stumbled upon Lady Bonin's Tea Parlour through Craft Gawker. As soon as I saw these pictures I fell in love with everything about this. If any picture sums up "me" it's this one. It's eclectic, bright, fun, comfortable, inviting, homey, etc. I want one too! I want a roaming tea parlour! I WILL have a roaming tea parlour just like this one! I think I just found my life's calling! Hehehehe!

I also love her mission...providing a healthy alternative to coffee!

Changes Are a Coming!

No one likes to change. Am I right? It's uncomfortable and hard sometimes! Last Sunday our stake and ward boundaries were re-aligned.

For those that don't know what that means I'll explain. Since the Mormon church is so huge we are assigned into "groups" or congregations. Where you live determines where you meet for church. You meet on Sunday as a "ward" and there are several wards that make up a "stake."

So we were all shuffled around last week. We gained a lot of new members that we so desperately wanted and needed.

Today on the windows of the church building it said "welcome to the new and improved 12th Ward." Fun, huh?

Well I wasn't expecting what happened today to happen. Our Bishop was released and a whole new bishopric was called. I sat and bawled through the whole service. I didn't cry because I was sad. I cried because I learned and grew so much in such a short amount of time serving under Bishop Pitt.

I don't know what the future holds for me. Will I stay president of Young Women's? Only the Lord knows at this point.

I just know that changes are ahead. Change is good. Change is hard. It's OK to cry. But then we need to move on to the next amazing task God has for us!

Ivy Girl Academy Ages 8-18

I have the amazing opportunity to be a volunteer for this event. I attended a training this morning to learn more about the program.

I left with tears in my eyes, literally. This is such an inspired program. This is a day where girls come and learn about self-cofindence, gratitude, self defense, etiquette, service, health, motherhood and personal power! They also get a mini makeover and a photo shoot to proove to themselves just how beautiful they are!

The Ivy Girl Academy Gala is September 10, 2011 from 10-7pm in Layton, UT.

If you have a dauther, niece or grandaughter who is between the ages of 8-18 I HIGHLY recommend this program.

I can not wait for this event. The speakers are going to be amazing and I know that these little lives will be changed forever.

Supermom Cape Gets Hung Up

The hubs sent me this link this morning. He sent it to me as I was playing with my 5 year old on my unmade bed. He was jumping over me playing frog and he had lots of tricks to show me too! We were laughing and having fun. The dishes hadn't been done yet and the family room was a mess. I didn't care.

I used to care and it made me miserable. Do I want a clean house? Of course! Does it rule my life? NO WAY! More often than not the house is a mess but we've had a fun day. I don't care anymore. I made a sign years ago that says "A clean house is the sign of a wasted life." I love it!

This article is totally worth a read. Are you a supermom? Are you willing to hang up your cape and play with your kids? It's so much fun! I'm so happy that my kids will remember me playing in the rain with them, tickling them, reading to them, building Legos with them, and goofing off with them.

SALT LAKE CITY -- Can trying to be too good of a mom make you depressed? A new study has moms everywhere re-examining their to-do lists.

"It's not necessarily being a good mom, but trying to be a perfect mom that's the problem. That's according to a new study by University of Washington researchers.
Researchers surveyed nearly 2,000 40-year-old women who were a mix of stay-at-home and working mothers. The women were asked to rank a series of statements about balancing work life and home life. The conclusion was that overall, stay-at-home moms were more depressed than working moms.
However, working moms who held onto a "supermom" attitude -- the idea that they can climb the corporate ladder and have a clean house, delicious dinner and perfect children -- were more unhappy and depressed than women who accepted the fact that they just can't do it all.
According to clinical psychologist Dr. Liz Hale, this study gives moms permission to "hang up their cape."
"Ask your child, ‘What would I be doing if I was a supermom,' and likely you are going to hear from them, not a perfect house, not gourmet meals, but ‘You are there for me. I feel like a priority and you really love me,'" she said.
As you might imagine, moms are talking up these findings in the blog world and other online sources. Moms weighed in on KSL's Facebook page when we asked: When was a time you hung up your supermom cape and were glad that you did?
For Kristine Brandt, it was this morning. She wrote, "Hubby offered to get our son off to school and let me sleep in, and I gladly accepted."
Sarah Webster told about a day she traded chores for a movie moment with her 17-month-old, saying, "Instead of cleaning the front room, I sat and watched it with her. Every time music came on, I picked her up and danced. Now whenever she hears music, she comes running to me, wanting to dance."
Teri McFarland has five young children. She says she used to try for supermom status, but that changed. "I had a pillow that I'd scream into whenever I felt a little stressed. I hung up my cape when my little daughter brought me ‘the pillow' without my asking one day."

You know those times in your life where you just can't seem to catch a break? I'm in one of those. I'm ready for some good news! But despite all that there have been some good things to happen this week!

Top 5 or more...

1. I got a full body massage on Tuesday. It was amazing. I've never had one before. I still relax every time I think about it. My 5 year old asked how the spa was. I told him it was great! He wanted to know all about my "bassage" and he even asked me if they put cucumbers on my eyes. Cute little stink!

2. I finally made artichokes last night. My 5 year old loved them and so did I. No one else did. So they gave me theirs. I will have to make those again very soon!

3. I really love my friends! They have been so supportive as I work some things out in my life. Auds leaves me quotes on facebook. Here's my favorite one..."Don't surround yourself with people who will fill you with doubt and discouragement. Find people who build up, people who can stand in faith with you!" - Joel Osteen. Good advice for anyone.

4. My 2 oldest started school! Hooray. I finally feel like I can get back into a routine. I like how quiet it is around here. Only 2 more years and then all the kids are in school full-time. Ahhh...I can't wait.

5. On Sunday the stake and ward boundaries were totally shuffled around. I sat there at the meeting so nervous because I love my calling as YW president and I did NOT want that to come to an end. I breathed a sigh of relief as they dissolved a ward and put half with us and the other half with another ward. Hooray! I know that many tears were shed but I was so happy! I think we have enough girls now to actually split them in classes instead of meeting all together! I do feel like changes are coming though. We need to incorporate the new members into callings.

6. I have an amazing aunt named Shirleen. She and I email almost every day. I love that she listens to me and loves me! Thank you for loving me and caring!

7. I finally got the garage cleaned out so I can park in the garage. It's so hot here and I'm so happy not to have to get into a stifling hot car!

Bottom 5 or less...

1. I had to take my 12 year old into the ER on Tues. She had a staph infection on her leg. She ended up on IV antibiotics so we had to go back 3 times and wait in the ER. She is so much better now! She was able to go back to school today. It was cute though to hear her and my 5 year old compare IV stories.

2. I totally over cooked the Halibut last night. Lesson learned. Don't walk away while cooking fish. Oops!

3. My 5 year old woke up with "bag" issues. Trust me, you do NOT want to know. I stripped his bed, washed them on HEAVY DUTY and now he's ready to sleep in a clean bed again.

4. At the beginning of summer I bought some beautiful plants for my porch. I took such good care of them. I watered them daily and picked off the dead blooms. I was so happy to look at them. Yea, their dead now and still sitting on my porch. My green thumbs hate me right now.

5. We had a runaway this week at our house. It took me hours to search. I was NOT happy. My motivation got up and ran a way. Can you believe the nerve? I was appalled that the police didn't do anything about it either. I thought they were here to SERVE and protect! I'm thinking of making flyers to take to local businesses. I need all the help I can get trying to track her down. So if you see her will you please bring her back? My house will thank you.

1. What is the best advice someone has ever given you?
This is a tough one. I've had so many people give me such great advice over the years. The advice that comes to my mind is some that my FIL gave me just recently. He told me when there is conflict it's OK to agree to disagree and the move on with your life. I LOVE that advice. Honestly I never thought that it's ok to agree to disagree. But sometimes in life there is no other option.
2. What is your greatest accomplishment?
My family. The hubs and I have been married 13 years. It's been really tough sometimes to make it work, you know? But we are happy and in love. I also think that being a mom is another great accomplishment. My kids KNOW I love them and we have FUN together! They know they can tell me anything and that I'll listen. It's something I've worked really hard at.
3. Who do you admire?
I really admire people who have worked through some of the toughest things life can throw at them yet they remain positive. We all have a choice when bad things happen to us. I've seen people hold major grudges and I've seen people who just let it roll of their backs. I am trying to be like that. It's hard.
4. If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?
My weight. Over the years I used food as my comfort! I don't do that anymore but here I am carrying the pain, depression and the conflicts around. I wish I could just snap my fingers and it would all melt off. I know that's not the case. But I have a good friend who told me about this new eating plan she came up with. We are doing it together and I'm soooo happy to have someone to do this with!
5. How do you want to be remembered?
Hmmmm...this is hard. I want to be remembered for having fun! I want my kids to remember their crazy mom who played with them in the rain and who sang at the top of her lungs in the kitchen with a mixing spoon. I want the hubs to remember that some of the best date nights were the ones where we grabbed salads and ate at the park or painted pottery. I want others to remember me for being willing to help at anytime! I really am the type that would do anything for anybody.

It All Started With A Massage...Luckily!!

Here's how my day started out...

Here's how it ended...

Yes, that's right. My day started out with a FULL body massage! It was pure bliss! I've never had a massage like that. This now will be something I do on a regular basis.

The bliss ended with a trip to the ER with my daughter. She has a MASSIVE infection on her leg. After school today the spot was huge. I drew a line around the area and when I saw that it was spreading within a matter of minutes I took her to the ER.

I'm so glad I did. Who knows what would have happened if I let it go one more day? Honestly, she probably would have ended up hospitalized.

So she's on IV antibiotics and oral antibiotics. We have to go back to the hospital tomorrow for another dose of IV meds. She left the hospital with her IV. She's in so much pain. They gave her some pain meds luckily. She has to stay home tomorrow and not move! The Dr. said she can get up to go to the bathroom and to eat. The infection can spread quickly the more she moves around.

I can't believe she already has to miss a day of school. She's not happy about that. That makes me happy that she's loving school so much already!

I Have A Confession

First Day of School 2011

Where has the time gone? My daughter started Jr. High today! And my son started 5th grade. The caboose is going to go to one more year of pre-school.

I am so excited to hear how their first day was! And I'm excited to put together all their pictures of the first day of school through the years. There hasn't been one year I missed. They are just on my other computer that crashed. I still need to figure all that out!

I thought I'd be an ugly mess crying today because she left for Jr. High. Nope! I'm so excited for her. It's going to be a huge adjustment but she's going to have so much fun!

New Favorite Date Night

The hubs and I try and go on a date every weekend. We've only missed a handful of weekends over the last couple of years. We always go to a movie and dinner but since there aren't any good movies playing we needed another idea.

We went to a place called Color Me Mine. It's a pottery shop and you get to paint the pottery! It was "date night" there so the studio fee was 50% off! We chose what pottery we wanted to paint. The hubs chose a box with a lid. He painted it black and then sponged gray on top. I liked how it turned out.

I chose this cute rooster water pitcher. There wasn't a sample for me to see so I had no inspiration. That freaks me out because I'm really good at copying I'm just scared to come up with my own idea. Well, tonight I had no choice. I browsed through some idea books and found some inspiration.

I didn't copy anything! This is my own doing. I'm so happy with it. After it's fired it will be a nice yellow color. The talons will be a nice barn red and then hopefully the "feathers" will stay black.

I'll post an after picture as soon as I pick it up on Wed!

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you had a fantastic week! I did!

Top 5

1. The hubs came home from Alaska with 85 pounds of Halibut and Salmon. Yummy! I can not wait to get cooking. He and his dad has a wonderful time. I'm going next time. I can't wait to reel in a 100 pound Halibut!

2. I have been struggling with some family issues. I am meeting with my Dad next week and am really nervous. So I called my father in-law for some advice. I'm so glad that I did. He is such a wise, wise man. I really am so blessed to have loving in-laws. Thank you Dad for the advice! I really do love you guys!

3. I'm not sure if this should be in the top or bottom. My tiny little 5 year old (who still wears 3T pants that are too big on him) wants to learn how to ride a bike without training wheels. I took them off a few days ago and we started learning. When I took the garbage to the curb yesterday I noticed that his training wheels were in that can. I asked the hubs why he did that (thinking we might need to put them back on). He told me it was our 5 year old who put them in the can. Oh my goodness!

4. I've started reading the Harry Potter series. I was reading a book that I liked but there were some very shady parts and so I decided to stop reading that book. That was hard because I want to know how the story ends but it's not worth it! So since we have all of the book I am giving it a go. I am enjoying them so much already! What a difference a good book makes!

5. The hubs introduced me to the most amazing food on Earth (aside from my dear Katie's brownies). He took me to a place called Beyond Glazed and I got a maple, bacon doughnut! Maybe I should move this to the number 1 spot!

Bottom 5...

1. I didn't get a call back from The Biggest Loser audition. I'm totally fine with it. It's not the right time in our lives for it anyway. But on a brighter note I really wanted to buy the Biggest Loser book. It was too expensive (having a jobless hubby) and so I didn't get it. I was at the thrift store a couple of days ago and found it! It was a whopping $2. That I can do!

2. My 5 year old's stoma relapsed. When I went to change his bag the stoma wasn't there! It was completely in his belly. We saw the surgeon that afternoon and he told me that it was ok as long as it was still working. Yesterday when I changed his bag it was back to normal again. Oh the joys of having a Hirschsprung kid!

3. The hubs still hasn't had a birthday cake. My 10 year old was putting the dishes away. He put my glass 9x13 pan on top of something and of course it fell and broke. I used to have 2 pans but I think I lent that to someone. I can't remember. So no cake YET.

4. Our garbage man had trouble with his truck right in front of our house yesterday. And in the process of fixing it dumped a ton of garbage on the street. Did he bother to clean it up? Of course not! We did. Or I should say the awesome hubs did. Thanks a lot Mr. garbage man.

5. I still haven't tackled all the clutter in our house. I'm making progress but this week was pretty unproductive. I think it's because the kids are starting school on Monday and everyone is anxious and that's all we are thinking about.

Beer Rebates...No Beer Required

Back in the day I was a HUGE coupon shopper. It's a ton of work and I'd love to get back into it but...I won't go there. Let's just say that the rude couponers have made my mind up for me.

But I still love looking for Beer rebates. Have you heard of them? I found this rebate on the frozen food isle. You get $8.00 back when you buy 2 Digiorno pizzas. Easy! That's it. Seriously. If you buy 2 pizzas you get $8.00.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUY BEER TO GET THE REBATES!

Most of the time you just have to buy snack items. So next time you are at the store look for these rebate forms. They are so simple to fill out and you really do get the checks in the mail. I love it!

You can also wander down the beer isle to look for them too. But usually they are found near the cracker displays and things like that!

Fortune Cookie

I had this fortune cookie laying around. I thought what the heck, let's see what it says. I was hoping it would give me some wise wisdom that I could pin up somewhere. But really, how often does that happen? More often you'll get a fortune that says "if you eat BBQ tomorrow more hair will grow on your head." You know what I'm talking about!

I laughed when I read this. How ironic that I get this fortune at this time in my life. I've had MUCH conflict lately and have chosen to handle it the best I can. These last couple of days have been hard because even after making an effort to apologize it has done nothing.

On Sunday we had a lesson in YW about repenting. We read a scripture that basically says that the Lord will forgive whom He will forgive but of you it is required to forgive all men. I told the girls about my situation and told them that they will come across people in their lives that despite all efforts being made on their parts those hurt might not forgive. I told them that it's not their fault and that God will forgive them if all efforts have been made.

We will all run across people who are unforgiving people in this lifetime. I believe that having a forgiving heart is a spiritual gift that God can give each and every one of us.

It is not an easy situation when this happens. I feel at peace because I KNOW 100% that the Lord has forgiven me. And I am coping with the situation. And you can too!

I know I'm not the only one going through this with family, friends or other loved ones. So trust God. Do what you need to do to repent. Say sorry to those you've offended and offer your apologies to God.

God never said He wouldn't forgive you if those you hurt don't forgive you. It's THEIR problem and they will have to answer for that one day.

So rest easy my fellow sinners, oops I mean my fellow friends who despite making mistakes are truly trying their best.

I am grateful for my husband's parents. I am so grateful that they have noticed significant growth over these last couple of years. I am so grateful that they don't hold onto the past. I am grateful they love me. I am grateful they forgive and FORGET. I love those guys!

So go for it! Let the pain and the hurt go! It's ok if they won't forgive you. Hang in there because I know I'm not alone in this!

{1} Did you live in the same town or move around a lot as a child?
We moved twice. We moved to San Jose when I was 4. But then we stayed in the same area my whole life. We moved into a bigger house when I was in 5th grade. It was a GREAT place to grow up!
{2} What were your parents like?
My Dad was a very busy man and wasn't home too much. He traveled for work and when he wasn't working he was gone because of commitments with church. I remember him coming home from work, grabbing a bite to eat and the he'd head off to more meetings. My Mom stayed home with us. I only remember her working outside of the home once. She worked in a doctor's office. She also taught piano lessons. She was amazing at that. I also remember that we didn't eat out a lot. My Mom always made a really good dinner! I don't remember not liking anything she ever cooked!
{3} Do you have any siblings? What were they like growing up?
I am the oldest of 4. My sister and I are only 10 months apart. I have 2 sisters and a little brother. I guess he's not so little anymore! He's married and has 3 kids!
{4} Share a short story from your childhood.
I remember my friend and I choreographing a dance to Barry Manilow's song "Copa Cabana." I still remember some of the moves and will still dance a long!

Beyond Glazed

I absolutely love these cute little bakeries that are popping up here in Utah. Last night before we met up with family to celebrate my husband's last year in his 30's (hahahaha!) we stopped by this cute bakery called Beyond Glazed. He had told me that they had a maple donut that was to die for!

I walked in and this beauty caught my eye! Imagine this maple doughnut with bacon pieces on top! What's better than maple and bacon? Oh yea, put it on a doughnut! Words can not describe the taste! It was what I want served to me 24-7 in Heaven. My mouth is watering just thinking about this doughnut!

Luckily Beyond Glazed is way beyond our house! I think the new tradition will be to go here before going to our favorite Mexican restaurant in Draper and skip See's Candy all together! Do you ever just have a day when you need a pick me up? We ALL do! It's the week before school starts and I think everyone is ready. We are all anxiously awaiting to find out who has what teacher and who will be in their classes. I was thinking today of everything that makes me happy and lifts my spirits. Here are just a few of them. So next time you are having one of "those" days try one of these things!! Oh and by the way...it was one of those days for me and I did get each and everything on this list!

Nothing is better than pizza on a night where it's just too hot to cook and nothing really sounds good anyway. Plus we ate on paper plates! No dishes! Winning!

Have you not discovered Metromint Chocolate Mint water? It's a little bit of Heaven on Earth. It's a MUST have on ANY day! I think I need to start stock piling these so that when the world ends I'll be happily drinking and won't care at all!

I'm so sorry if you don't have a Harmon's Grocery store nearby. They have the BEST salad bar by far! I love going to Harmon's!

Project Runway totally boosts my mood! Maybe it's because they shop at Mood for their fabric..."thank you Mood." Although this week they went shopping at the pet shop. I wanted the bird seed dress to win!

I LOVE buying a brand new magazine when I'm having one of those days! And here's just how new it has to be. I won't grab the front magazine. I will grab one from the middle of the stack just to make sure that no one else has browsed through it during their checkout experience.

Ok, so I didn't get brownies. But I keep dreaming of Katie's brownies! I also love buying these little guys, you know the little cookbooks at the checkout stand? I bought a Halloween one today! I can't wait for Halloween! And it makes me all kinds of happy that the stores are starting to display the fall items!

The Hubs is Home From Alaska

The Hubs got back from Alaska today!! As I watched the kids play with him on the front lawn tonight I realized how much they loved their daddy!

I'm sorry there are sooooo many pictures on this post. We looked at all of his pictures today. Here are some of my favorite. They are untouched. He had problems with his lens the whole time. Luckily we have editing software to take out all of the black dots.

So he's home! Our freezer is stuffed with 85 pounds of Halibut and Salmon! I have 3 new magnets on my fridge and each of us have a new shirt!

I'm so happy he's home!

I can't wait to post more! His dad has the other pictures with him in it!

No Call Back

I didn't get a call back yesterday after they Biggest Loser auditions. I actually think this next season (13) is a couples episode. There were several past contestants and one of them told me that the time he auditioned it wasn't for couples. The next time they held auditions the producers called he and his mom because they wanted them to try out again. They gave them VIP access so they went straight to the front of the line.

Yesterday while I was standing in line there were two brothers who had a VIP pass. So that made me wonder is this casting is for partners. In fact the casting agent asked if the girl I was sitting next to was my partner.

Never fear, I will audition again. I will still submit my video and see what happens.

It was a good experience though. I realized that I CAN do this even if I don't get on the show. I CAN lose the weight. I CAN be a good example to my family.

I'm so glad that I went. I wasn't nervous at all! I think I'm coming out of my shell!

Time seriously needs to start slowing down! I freak out some Fridays because the week has gone by just too fast. How was your week? I hope fabulous!

Top 5

1. I met up with my sister in-law and my mother in-law and we took all the kids to Liberty Park in Salt Lake. We go every summer. Today was a blast! Beth bought tickets for rides and I got to ride the Ferris Wheel with Carter. He LOVED it! Beth got a kick out of the look on Carter's face. The kids played in the water features and we even rode the paddle boats on the lake. So fun!

2. Melanie won So You Think You Can Dance! This is a favorite show around these parts. We have been rooting for Melanie from day one! She's truly is an amazing dancer. Good job Melanie! We voted for you!

3. Tomorrow is the big audition day! Here's to being the next Biggest Loser!

4. I can actually see the carpet in my office! Not only can I see it, I vacuumed it too! It had become my dumping ground. NO MORE!! Take that clutter!

5. I have actually been cooking. I know, shocking! Last night I made dessert too! I never make dessert, EVER! The looks on the kids' faces was priceless. I'm surprised their eyes didn't bug out of their heads or something like that. They've gobbled up everything I've made. Here's to cheap and easy cooking that tastes amazing!

1. Remember that shirt that I ordered for Carter? I ordered a size 4 because he still fits in that size and that was the biggest size it came in. First of all, Fed Ex delivered it to the wrong house. Second, our neighbor opened it. And third, the shirt isn't even close to a 4. It's more like a size 2. Perfect.

2. My son and his cousin scared the living daylights out of my niece. We were on the Ferris Wheel and they kept yelling "we're gonna die." I told the to be quiet over and over again. The ride stopped and I wondered why it was so short. Then I realized that my terrified niece was crying so hard that the operator stopped the ride to let her off. Uggg...

3. After watching so many Harry Potter movies this week my 5 year old picked up the phrase "Bloody Hell." He didn't understand why it was such a bad thing to say! I have to admit though that the first time I heard it come out of his little mouth I laughed! It wasn't as funny when he said it at our youth activity on Tuesday night. Ok, yes it was. Luckily he hasn't said it since. He will cast spells with a British accent still luckily. Hilarious!

4. Our dishwasher is still NOT working (insert joke here, right?). I was so good about keeping up with the hand washing of the dishes until yesterday when my motivation got up and walked out the door. I think it's time to teach the kids how to really do the dishes. But on a brighter note as I'm doing the dishes I think of my grandmas. I pictured them in the 40's and 50's standing at the sink doing exactly what I am doing. Oh and I also have sparkling clean dishes again. You know it's time to stop using the dishwasher when the dishes come out dirtier than when you put them in!

5. I'm not sure what's happening with the job hunt. It doesn't look good right now. Having my husband out of work is hard. The money is running out. What am I talking about? It has run out. Luckily he was found not at fault and so we will be able to collect unemployment. Now a job would be nice. I'm trying to find the positive in this though. We have been extremely blessed. We have a roof over our head and food in our bellies. And we get to enjoy the time spent together.

I found the BEST app for creating home routines. It's hard for me to stay on task sometimes! I know, hard to believe!

I seriously was not paid or compensated in any way. I really do love this app so much! It's $2.99 and worth EVERY penny.

I was able to create my own morning routine and eventing routine. And I get gold stars when I complete a task! And who doesn't like gold stars, am I right?

I've always loved the EFY Cds that come out every year. This year was just a little bit different. I have a friend who wrote a song that made it onto the CD!! Not only did she write it, she sang it on the CD too! The day it was available to purchase I literally ran to the store. I couldn't get the plastic off fast enough. Wahoo! It's been a MUCH better week! You gotta love weeks like this!!

Top 5 or more...

1. I cut off my hair! I couldn't be happier! I swear there is nothing better than a good haircut. I loved seeing that pile of hair on the floor. I just felt liberated. I'm not sure if that makes sense to you but seeing that hair just made me feel awesome! I realized again that it's ok to change my mind. It was on my bucket list to grow out my hair and donate it. But honestly, I was miserable. It was ok to change my mind. I don't want to live a miserable life! I think that's why it was so liberating to cut that hair off!

2. I played with my kids in the rain! We had such a good time! Someone commented on that post and said "now THAT is good parenting." It made me feel so good! We laughed so hard! GOOD memories were made. This is the kind of mom I'm striving to become. I LOVED playing with my kids. And I can't wait for it to rain again and again!

3. I took the kids to see Harry Potter 7.2 yesterday. We are a little obsessed with Harry Potter these days. When the movies first came out my kids were 2 and 3 and they didn't care of course! Now that our son is 10 he's totally into Harry Potter. Even our 5 year old is in on the action. He uses his drum stick as a wand. It's hilarious that he goes around casting spells on everything and everyone. I have to admit that I'm even enjoying watching the movies. And 7.2 was awesome!

4. We went to the farmer's market for the first time this season. It was kind of sad that is was so sparse. We've had yet another year of crazy weather. But we still had a good time. The highlight was getting "samales" aka tamales. I'll be sad when our 5 year old starts saying it the right way. We enjoyed the samales!

5. I dropped off the 2,000 packets that we put together this week at Jenny Phillips' house. Everyone who helped got paid. After setting aside our tithing we still had plenty left! I feel so blessed. The kids each put in hours of work! They had enough money to pay for the movie yesterday and go back to school shopping. Well, I should say our daughter bought clothes. Our son bought a video game and legos. He said he had enough clothes. I just had to laugh. I love having boys!

6. Forgiving is such an awesome thing! I had my husband give me a blessing before he went fishing in Alaska (lucky)! He told me that Heavenly Father had forgiven me for the things that I said to my family. I had been praying so hard for forgiveness. I realized that I have done everything I need to to offer my apologies. It was such a comfort to know that the Lord forgave me. I love my Savior! Repenting is such a cool experience. I know that's why this week has been such a good one. I feel as if a ton of bricks has been lifted off my shoulders. I know that I can't make anyone forgive me and that's ok. I know I've done all that I can possibly do. That's what matters.

So if you find yourself in a similar circumstance that I am in. Just know that if you sincerely apologize to those you have hurt and ask God to forgive you, He will! It's doesn't matter if your apology is accepted or not. You have no control over that. You do have control over your actions! I am totally at peace.

1. Our 5 year old has decided that using his adhesive remover wipes are a good way to clean things! After talking to him about it he told me he wouldn't get into those anymore. I came home from a meeting last night and found lens cleaner wipes on the front yard. I guess he thought since the adhesive wipes were off limits these weren't. Ugggg....

2. The dog has been on my nerves this week. I'm going to go buy a baby gate so he can't get into the basement anymore. He knows when he's in trouble!

3. I bought a book called "Clutters Last Stand." That's not bad. It's the clutter I'm worried about. I feel the clutter shaking in their boots! The clutter wants to be on the bottom this week! But guess who's going to win? Me!

4. Migraines stink! I thought I could sleep it off but I was wrong! Luckily Excedrin was able to help!

5. I've been thinking a lot this week. I had my "breakdown" over my daughter starting Jr. High. I just wish that she could stay little forever. I just can't believe that she's growing up. I'm so glad that she has good friends though. I know she'll have fun but it's still hard for me to send her off! It just seems like yesterday that I dropped her off at kindergarten. I have a feeling that I'm going to do the "ugly" cry on the first day of school.

Look Who Cut Their Hair!

Yep, it's me! I cut off my hair last night. I forgot to take a before picture. Yesterday my hair hit the top of my shoulders. It was a curly mess. I hated it. It was time for a change. I was trying to grow out my hair but it didn't suit me at all! So here's the new do! What do you think?

Here's all the hair! Awesome huh? I had so much cut off that it didn't fit in her big dust pan.

I am so happy with my haircut! Thank you Audrey for being an awesome bestie and driving me up to your sister's house!

It rained today and do you know what that means at our house? We go out and PLAY!!

The rule (at first) was we could only fill our cups with rain water.

Once the rained stopped they wanted to use the hose! I guess he turned the hose up a little too high. That poor glass just kept shooting right out of his hands as he tried to fill it up.

Bucket List Revised

I had a "light bulb" moment last night. I want to cut my hair. I had made it a goal to grow it out and donate it to Locks of Love. I don't want to do it anymore. I'm miserable. And then it hit me...a lot of what is on my bucket list are things I want to do so others will be proud of me.

To heck with that! How sick and wrong was that of me? All that matters is that I'm proud of me and also that God is proud of me.

So I will now revise this list. Yep, there will be blank spots for right now. That's OK. I'm a constantly changing human being and it's ok to change my mind. It's ok to stop something if it's making me miserable. So I'm cutting my hair this week. I can't wait!!

How I've Survived This Week

BBQ! Dang the hubs is getting good with his smoker! Survived this week with yummy food and good friends to share that with!

I survived the week knowing I have a private blog!

I'm still waiting for those pills to kick in! Wait, what? You actually have to take them? Crap! I haven't got any. Time to see the doctor!

I survived this week because of my really good friends. They've all come through for me when I needed them the most.

I survived because I have a great husband!

I survived because my friend brought me yellow roses.

I survived because I went to the temple.

I survived because of the blessing of work! God has been so good to me! I need money to get to the Netherlands in May. It's an amazing opportunity to sing and perform missionary work.

I survived because I know that God loves me. I see the proof in all the work I've been able to do lately to come up with the deposit money.

I've survived because I have a family that needs me! They need all of me! They need my silliness, my discipline, my laughter, my talents, my spunk, etc. They need ME! Plain ole MEEEEEEE!!!

I've survived because I know thing are just things. They can totally be replaced. No biggie. People can't, memories can't, knowledge can't be replaced! No one can take my self worth, talents, beauty away. And no one can take yours away either.

I have not been blessed with the gift for writing. Sometimes a picture says it better than I could say it myself. I have said some things about how hurt I've been over this last week. Feelings were hurt more on each part. I will own my mistakes. I will own what I have done wrong. I will ask for forgiveness. I will keep this blog uplifting. I am sorry.

I pray that forgiveness will come in this lifetime. I pray that hearts will be softened. I pray for Christ-like love towards others. Amen.

Holy moly! It's been a doozy of a week! I'm ready to have a quiet, peaceful week next week! It WILL happen!

1. Our "baby" turned 5! We had such a fun time celebrating this special day with family and fireworks! Carter loves the fireworks now that aerials are legal here in Utah.

2. The hubs had a job interview! It went really well and we just found out that he is moving on to the next round of interviews!

3. My friend Heidi and I took Addison and her friend to the temple yesterday. It was so nice to escape the pressures of the world for just a couple of hours.

4. Tiff came over yesterday! Oh how I've missed her. I love that girl!

5. I realized how blessed I am! I have amazing friends who want to help me get to the Netherlands. I've also been blessed with some work. That will help pay the deposit that is due this week!

I don't have much to say about this...I can't. I will just say that this week has been a rough one.

There will probably be no forgiveness in this lifetime. Remember that saying...nothing can compensate for failure in the home. FAIL.

My husband received a certified letter in the mail from my dad. My father didn't even spell my husband's name correctly.

I hope next week is better. I hope we can keep the car.

Today I am overwhelmed with the amount of blessings that are being poured out on me.

I need money for the upcoming trip to the Netherlands. We are going there as a singing group to perform and I know that there will be opportunities for missionary work. My friends are helping me come up with ideas on how I can raise the money. They are amazing!

Today I checked my email and learned of an opportunity to make some money.

God is good to those that are faithful. I am NOT perfect! But God knows our hearts and our intentions. He loves us.

I love music! I love uplifting music. It doesn't have to be performed by an LDS artist to be uplifting. I am just discovering how amazing Christian music can be also. Here is one of the most amazing songs ever!

After the devastating weekend I had this last weekend, I need some words of encouragement.

We all have times in our lives that family will turn their back on us, a co-worker back stabs you in the back, your child is making wrong choices, etc. What do you do in those situations?

I want a happy family! I want a family that loves me and listens to me. I have an amazing husband and children that do. I made myself a promise a long time ago that my kids will ALWAYS know without question that I love them. So far, so good!

Through this whole experience I've been so blessed with amazing friends who I know truly care about me, flaws and all.

I know that Christ loves me. I know he's proud of the work I'm doing with my family. Through the Savior I can see what I have. If my family chooses not to forgive me, it's their problem, not mine. It still hurts but I can't change them. So I'm choosing to let go. Come what may...

He really, really wanted fireworks for his birthday too! I love that every year we can celebrate his birthday with fireworks! Today was the official Pioneer Day in the state. So we could still set off fireworks. I found these exploding Osama Bin Laden heads. Awesome!

I can't believe how well this kid can keep a rhythm. It's crazy that a 5 year old has such mad drum skills!

Grandma & Grandpa came to celebrate with us! Carter loves them so much!

If you are reading this post it's because I'm not in jail...all kids are safe and accounted for! It's just been one of "those" days!

How was your week? I hope it was better than mine!

Top 5

1. The hubs and I went and saw the movie "17 Miracles" tonight. I don't care if you are Mormon or not, this movie is amazing! It's just proof that God still performs miracles today! I loved it. If it's not playing in a theater near you wait to order it on DVD. The acting is amazing and so is the cinematography. It doesn't disappoint. Just bring the tissues!

2. I have a bestie named Audrey! She kidnapped me last night. We went to Anastasia's Attic at Gardner Village. That store is amazing! It's filled with magic! I'm not kidding. I bought myself a little angel statue for my meditation room (if I ever get that finished!). She also took me out to dinner! We went to our usual place! We laughed and cried! I love that girl so much! We even ran into Mike, a family friend!

3. I posted something on facebook about my son being an overachiever. Somehow tiaras got brought up and I mentioned that I didn't own one. We joked that it should have brown gems because I'm the queen of "crap" (literally and if you don't know what I'm talking about go read back a few posts about the colostomy bag). Somehow Audrey bought a tiara last night and I had no idea about it. She gave it to me at dinner! I now am official!

Queen of Crap! I couldn't be any prouder!

4. On the news the other night there was a story about how going to church on a regular basis makes you fat! Oh so now I get it! It's not the food making me plump, it's church!

5. I had the most amazing time at Youth Conference and can't wait to blog about it. I'm still smiling!

Bottom 5...WARNING it's been one of "those" weeks

1. My husband was laid off. Yes, you read that right. Thanks Obama! Just kidding. I need someone to blame! I'd love to spill my guts about how I really feel about this but I can't. Oh but I so wish I could! I'll just say this...I'm really finding it hard to not be angry and forgiving. My husband was a hard worker who did nothing but build his team up and he didn't deserve this at all.

2. We won't get his final check for up to 21 days! Are you kidding me? What in the world? Again, trying not to angry.

3. On Saturday when I got home from Youth Conference I was so excited to see my family that I didn't get my luggage out. I just ran in the house to say hi! And then because my friend was borrowing my van that night I had to wash the van. Oh I can't wait to post about the mud! In my haste to clean out the car I totally forgot about my suitcase. She came and got the van and said she'd be home late, no biggie, right? It wasn't until I was ready to go to bed. I realized I left my CPAP machine and all my meds in the car too! I didn't go to bed that night until 2am and then I got up at 7 to get ready for church! Oops!

4. I saw that you can now buy tampons and panti liners in gift boxes. How depressing is this? Who seriously wants these as a present? I'd love a gift that would magically stop my period! I'd put THAT on my Christmas list. I think they just want us to buy these for White Elephant exchanges! Time to throw a party! Oh and do you see that after you've used these you can then store your stuff in style? Marketing...you have FAILED!

5. The hubs washed a rag that has gasoline on it. I'm happy to report that our house didn't catch on fire. However, our washer now smells like a gas station as do our clothes. I'm sure Jenny Phillips will find this very funny when I show up tomorrow to help her with her music workshop smelling like gas.

I'm ready to just run into a corner and start sucking my thumb at this point!

Tender Mercies

I love this! I just want to share the tender mercies that I was given yesterday. I know that Elder Bednar is right, they don't occur randomly!

I wanted to go to the cemetery so I could "visit" with my Grandma. I know that angels are all around us and I needed to feel her and talk to her. She had a still born baby in 1936. Notice the date. Yesterday was the 6th. I didn't know that the date was September 6th.

Tender Mercy 2...I have a project that I want to start working on but I needed dandelions for it. It's not Spring. You can't find any! They were all over the cemetery. They hadn't mowed the lawn that week and I was able to grab all the "wishes" I wanted to!

Tender Mercy 3...Before I left for the cemetery I had a thought to check the mail. My friend Steve had mailed me an "ugly" card! I laughed so hard! He also sent an amazing CD too! I BLASTED that all the way to the cemetery. Thanks Steve!

Tender Mercy 4...Last night we had the opportunity to hear from Jean Keaton. She's an amazing artist. Her story was so touching and inspiring. I needed to hear her stories and see those prints! This one is one of my favorites.

Tender Mercy 5...When I got home from the activity Auds was at my house. I love her like a sister! She is so loving and kind and tell it like it is. I love that about her. She and the Hubs helped me a lot last night.

I felt so blessed as I went to bed last night. It would have been so easy for me to focus on the negative but look at everything I would have missed out on! I love God and His Son Jesus Christ. My life would not be complete without my relationship with them.
